BMR calculator – Metabolic base

BMR – Metabolic base

Even at rest, our body burns calories, by performing basic and necessary actions for living, such as the process of respiration, processing of substances and production of cells.
The amount of calories that the body burns just from the fact that it is alive is called Resting Metabolic Rate or BMR.

BMR Calculator (Basal Metabolic Rate, Mifflin St Jeor Equation)

Compared to RMR – also known as resting Energy Expenditure (REE), which is the number of calories the body burns at rest, BMR is the minimum number of calories needed to live.

Although BMR and RMR differ slightly from each other, the RMR should be an approximation of the BMR.

There are several factors that affect RMR:

Your body structure (muscle burns up to 5 times more calories than fat.)

Sex – Women have about 5-10% lower RMR than men.

Weather – In the cold the body burns more calories in order to warm itself.

And another interesting fact, which is not pleasant to admit, is that caffeine and nicotine raise the RMR.

Attention!

This calculator only calculates the calories you burn at rest and not how many you burn per day.
How much you burn per day varies depending on your body composition. You can read more about this in the article on why it is harder for fat people to lose weight.
