Muscle injuries

Muscle injuries are injuries that very many athletes do not take seriously! Did you know that a “wooden leg” (when the leg is unable to move) is a muscle injury that causes enormous damage? Keep reading and you will understand the damage of a wooden leg.

Muscle injuries rupture

rupture due to over-stretching is common especially in sports where explosive power and rapid movements are required. Examples of sports where muscle rupture is common are tennis, football, soccer, and basketball.

There are several degrees to muscle rupture:

  • A rupture of up to 5 percent of muscle mass accompanied by local pain, with no loss of strength.
  • A rupture of more than 5 percent but less than a complete rupture, accompanied by pain and swelling, and a decrease in strength.
  • A complete rupture manifested by an inability to contract the muscle.

Overcompression tears are created from a situation where there is contact between an external factor and the victim’s mucsle.
This contact causes hemorrhage and a muscle tear.

Muscle tears are accompanied by the following symptoms

  • sharp and stabbing pain at the moment of injury, which causes the inability to properly contract the muscle.
  • Pain in any attempt to contract the muscle, and even a little pain at rest.
  • In case of a complete rupture, the muscle contorts.
  • Sensitivity and swelling in the rupture area.
  • After 24 hours, hemorrhages will appear in the ruptured area.

After a muscle tear, the muscle will not return to its previous state and will not be equally strong. The healing process leaves an elastic scar that prevents muscle contraction by 100%.
In order to maintain muscle length, it is imperative to perform stretching.

Compartment syndrome (Overuse)  Appears when there is too much use of muscle and muscle swells. Muscles in some areas have a thin shell that is inside the connective tissue of the muscle with the bone.
When one of these muscles is used too much and it swells, the pressure is created all over the area and the blood supply to the muscle decreases significantly. This decrease in blood supply leads to the release of substances that are interpreted in the brain as strong pain.

As the load on that area increases, the muscle will continue to swell and squeeze, and the pain will increase.
